Edwards Etiquette

• DO NOT...hug, shake hands, speak loudly or high five as these actions can transmit the virus 
• MAINTAIN A DISTANCE of approximately six feet or more from others when possible
• AVOID mass gatherings and congregate settings where close contact with others may occur
• WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN using soap and warm water often and sanitize when available
• COVER YOUR COUGHS AND SNEEZES with a mask or other face covering
• STAY AT HOME and away from others.

In this time of great concern for public health and limiting the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), it’s extremely important to employ best practices for Social Distancing which is physically distancing ourselves 6 - 12 feet from each other whenever possible and limiting social interactions outside of the home.  This may feel awkward and impolite, but it is necessary.

Social Distancing is the new respect, consideration and honesty about doing your part. It's about stopping the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and keeping us all safe. These are the new manners. Safety comes before traditional etiquette.

Here are some respectful, considerate and honest social distancing greetings and responses that will make things a little less awkward when dealing with others:

When someone wants a or to hug:

• I’ll practice social distancing but I’m so happy to see you!
• Air hugs!

When someone wants to shake your hand:

• I’m avoiding contact, but it’s such a pleasure to meet you!

When someone refuses to practice Social Distancing:

• I understand you’re not worried, but since I am, I’m going to ask to call in/do this over the phone/schedule a video call. I can’t wait to get together once things are safe again.

When someone wants to hang out:

• Happy to go for a walk as long as we stay 6 feet apart.

Simply defined, etiquette is a code of behavior. The rules not to practice "Social Distancing" is rude and dangerous. How we now behave and interact and what is deemed “polite” or “acceptable behavior" has changed during this time and so must we.
